Chien-Pao has a catch rate of 6 out of 255, which makes it tricky to catch. In the Tall Grass Club meadow, better balls improve your odds.
In the Tall Grass Club catching game, Chien-Pao lives in the Night area, which opens after you've caught 45 Pokémon. Wild Chien-Pao start turning up once your partner is around level 45. Legendary Pokémon only appear once you've caught 100 Pokémon, and only rarely. It's easier to find at night. Tap Track on this page and it will turn up more often.
Chien-Pao isn't found in the wild in the main games listed in PokeAPI. It's usually a gift, an event or a special encounter.
Chien-Pao is weak to Fighting, Rock, Bug, Steel, Fire and Fairy moves, so Pokémon of those types are your best bet.
